The twin independent variable cam timing (TI-VCT) opens and closes valves in precise duration to suit operating conditions, so power output is optimized at every point across the performance band. The 3.3L engine also has the ford port fuel and direct injection (PFDI) system with two injectors per cylinder, one mounted in the air intake port and the other inside the cylinder.
